A
Farewell Luncheon
at Brunswick County Club
The Golden Isles Chapter of the Military Officers
Association of
America held its farewell luncheon at Brunswick Country
Club on
November 6, 2022. We had 45 participants.
We were honored to have Dr Michelle Johnson, President of
the
Coastal College of Georgia in attendance. She was there
to accept
the initial funding of the endowment to aid military and
their
immediate families for scholarship funding. Jamie
Bessette, VP for
Advancement at the college, was also in attendance. He
will have
oversight and management responsibilities for the
endowment. The
endowment will be named after the chapter. It will also
be a living
fund open to further contributions.
We had a document signing ceremony followed by acceptance
comments from Dr. Johnson.
Colonel Jerry Rhyne gave a brief history of the chapter
for the past 40
years. Colonel Daryl Rabert gave a brief history of the
scholarship
program as well.
Both Col Rhyne and Col Rabert were recognized for their
long and
professional service to the chapter. Both have served on
the board
for more than 20 years.
The program was concluded by two speakers, Lorene Reid,
Director
of the Veterans Tiny Homes project in Brunswick, and
Megan Hostler,
Director of the Nine Line Foundation, who gave updates on
the Tiny
Homes Project.
All attendees agreed to maintain their membership in
National MOAA.
Regretfully, our final meeting was adjourned
