Welcome to the Golden Isles Chapter
News
Update for 2021: The new
year is just about on us. Our first meeting will be Sunday
February 21st at noon. Woody was able to book Jonathon Tenet as
our speaker. You may remember he was harbor pilot on the Golden
Ray. We hope a lot of you will attend. Brunswick Country Club
has had a lot of activity in the past few months and their
cleanliness and social distancing policies have prevented any
COVID cases. You will enjoy great fellowship in a safe
environment. We look forward to seeing for lunch that day.
Scholarship Program:
We are resuming our scholarship program and very excited about
it we have done pretty well at fund raising, but could use a
little more support. We would love to have your support. Jim
Bruce has set up a new payment app on our website at GIMOAA.org.
You can donate thru that app as well as pay your dues. Check it
out. It’s easy to use .
Need A Volunteer:
Our team needs someone to help out with the administrative
details of our scholarship program. It requires a minimal
amount of time, and I believe you will find it a rewarding
experience. Call Dick James at 703-975-3632 and I’ll fill you
in on some of the details. We look forward to having you
onboard.
GIMOAA Dues
for 2021:
Jerry
Rhyne will be emailing 2021
dues notice in early
December. The rate will be the same as last year, $40. You can
pay via
mailing
a check to our PO Box or using a credit card using our new
payment
method on our
website.
Veteran Memorial
Park:
On November 4th,
The
Glynn County
Commissioners
conducted
an
Opening and
Dedication
Ceremony for our new
Veteran
Memorial Park in
downtown Brunswick.
Chairman Mike Browning
provided information about how they
developed the park.
Live music was provided by the Glynn Academy
Wind Symphony.
Both JROTC programs
supported the dedication,
Congressman
Buddy Carter provided the Keynote address. A timely message for
all veterans.
Be save and Happy
Holidays,
Dick

The Golden Isles Chapter of MOAA was chartered in 1964. Our
membership lives in the Golden Isles area of Brunswick, St. Simons Island,
Jekyll Island, Sea Island and surroundings counties.
We meet at the Brunswick County Club, Brunwick, GA.
except as noted. We have a social hour and a served dinner followed by a
formal program. We have been able to attract prominent national, as well as
local speakers for our programs.
Each year the chapter provides a scholarship to a student
from each of the three Glynn County High Schools. All students in good standing
are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Membership is open to active duty, retired, National Guard,
reserve, former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the Army, Marine
Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration. Auxiliary memberships are also available for
surviving spouses of deceased officers.
